Install yourself in the garden on a lounger with a good book and a glass of wine!

1 minute away left or right of the house is a track into the woods. It is absolutely beautiful. Paddle in the stream at the bottom. Walk for miles without seeing a soul.

Take the bikes out and explore the country lanes.

Bike into the village to get the bread or have lunch at the friendly café (they speak very good English).

Just chill! There's the internet if you really do need to link up to the office.

There are several 'Voies Vertes', which are cycle paths and a huge network of canal tow paths for easy walking and cycling.

There is a nine-hole golf course at Caden and one at Poemel. For serious golfers, there is an excellent course at La Bretesche, a 25 minute drive.

By car, within 30 minutes:

• 10 minutes – the stunning medieval town of Rochefort en Terre (a great place to eat out).
• 10 minutes – Port de Foleux is the quickest way to the Vilaine river.
• 10 minutes – Parc préhistorique – dinosaurs and how we used to live (good one for the kiddies)
• 15 minutes – the pretty town of Redon has a good shopping centre.
• 15 minutes – Questembert market on a Monday morning is an absolute must.
• 15 minutes – the picturesque river port of La Roche Bernard with it's harbour, seafood restaurants and bars.
• 20 minutes – The Arzal-Camoel dam has created a vast fresh water reservoir which houses a large marina. You can take a boat trip to explore the picturesque river between Arzal and Redon, or opt for a candlelit meal afloat while you cruise.
• 20 minutes – La Gacilly is a pretty tourist village with a weir and the possibility of hiring little boats in summer.
• 25 minutes – The beach at Penestin.

Further Afield:

• Vannes is 35 minutes away, with its Cathedral, medieval streets, shops, cafés, aquarium.
• Superb sandy beaches and rock-pools (low tide) at Damgan - 30 minutes drive.
• The Sarzeau Peninsula is a great place to explore, as is the Golfe du Morbihan (boat trip).
• The walled town of Guerande is 40 minutes away.
• The elegant resort of La Baule is 45 minutes drive and will appeal to all tastes with miles of sandy beaches, casino, marina, and sporting attractions such as tennis, golf, show-jumping and racing tournaments.
• You are within easy driving distance of the historic towns of Josselin and Chateaubriand. And if you fancy a day out in Paris you can catch the TGV from Redon (10 mins drive away - journey is under 3 hours). See internet for times.
